Vitamin Injections in Redhill

Vitamin IM injections are a way of delivering selected vitamins directly into the muscle, where they can be absorbed into the bloodstream. At Summer House Wellness, I offer intramuscular Vitamin B12 and Biotin injections, providing an alternative route of supplementation for clients where appropriate.

Vitamin B12 and biotin both play important roles within the body, but they have different functions and indications. Your individual circumstances, health, medical history, current supplements and treatment goals will be considered before treatment to ensure that an injection is appropriate for you.

Vitamin injections are not intended to replace a balanced diet or medical care for an underlying health condition. Where a deficiency is suspected or confirmed, appropriate medical assessment and blood testing may be recommended before treatment.

Vitamins available at Summer House Wellness

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 plays an important role in the formation of red blood cells, normal nervous system function and the release of energy from food. A lack of B12 can lead to vitamin B12 deficiency and anaemia, and B12 replacement is an established treatment for deficiency. Depending on the cause of the deficiency, B12 may be given as an injection or taken orally.

Biotin

Biotin, also known as Vitamin B7, is involved in normal energy metabolism and helps the body process nutrients. Biotin is found in a variety of foods and deficiency is uncommon. Where supplementation is appropriate, your individual circumstances and existing intake of biotin will be considered before treatment.

Intramuscular, or IM, injections deliver the selected vitamin into muscle tissue, where it can then be absorbed into the bloodstream. This route bypasses the digestive system and can be useful in particular circumstances where injectable replacement is appropriate.

Vitamin B12 is the most established of the two treatments offered at Summer House Wellness, with intramuscular B12 used in the management of certain types of B12 deficiency, particularly where absorption may be impaired.

An injection is not automatically more effective than taking a vitamin orally. The most appropriate route depends on the individual vitamin, your circumstances and the reason for supplementation. Your suitability will therefore be assessed before treatment.

How do Vitamin IM injections work?

Vitamin IM injections may be suitable for adults who are looking to supplement Vitamin B12 or Biotin where this is considered appropriate following an individual assessment.

Suitability will depend on the vitamin being considered, your medical history, current medications and supplements, allergies and any existing health conditions. Where there are symptoms or concerns that could indicate a deficiency, you may be advised to arrange appropriate blood testing or speak with your GP before treatment.

A vitamin injection should not be used as a substitute for investigating an underlying health concern. Your consultation will help determine whether treatment is appropriate for you and which option, if any, is most suitable.

Who May be suitable?

Your consultation is an opportunity to discuss your health, lifestyle, nutritional concerns and what you would like to achieve from treatment. We will review your medical history, current medications and supplements, allergies and any relevant health conditions.

We will discuss Vitamin B12 and Biotin and whether an intramuscular injection is an appropriate way for you to receive supplementation. If there are concerns about a possible deficiency or underlying medical condition, you may be advised to seek further assessment or blood testing before treatment.

We will also discuss the injection process, potential side effects, aftercare and whether a single treatment or course may be appropriate for you.

There is no pressure to proceed. The aim is to ensure that you understand your options and that treatment is appropriate for your individual circumstances.

What To Expect At The Consultation

What to expect with Vitamin Injections

Treatment time: 10-15 minutes
What to Expect: The injection itself may cause a brief pinching or stinging sensation. Some people may experience mild soreness, redness, swelling or tenderness around the injection site afterwards. These effects are generally temporary.
Results: The effects of vitamin supplementation vary between individuals and depend on the vitamin being given and your individual nutritional status. Where someone has a deficiency, correcting it may help improve symptoms associated with that deficiency. Vitamin injections should not be expected to produce an immediate or guaranteed boost in energy or wellbeing in someone who already has adequate vitamin levels.
Course and Maintenance: The frequency of treatment depends on the vitamin, your individual circumstances and the reason for supplementation. Some people may require a course of treatment, while others may not require ongoing injections. Your practitioner will discuss an appropriate treatment schedule with you, and medical follow-up may be recommended where treatment is being used to address a confirmed deficiency.

Normal movement is fine following an IM injection. Gentle movement of the treated muscle may help prevent stiffness, but avoid anything that causes significant discomfort.

Keep the injection site clean and avoid unnecessary touching or rubbing immediately after treatment.

Follow the treatment schedule discussed during your consultation and let your practitioner know about any other vitamins or supplements you are taking. Avoid adding additional high-dose supplementation without checking that it is appropriate alongside your treatment.

FAQs

1

Are Vitamin Injections better than tablets?

Not necessarily. Whether an injection or oral supplement is more appropriate depends on the specific vitamin, your nutritional needs and your ability to absorb it. Intramuscular Vitamin B12 is particularly useful in certain types of B12 deficiency, while oral supplementation may be appropriate in other circumstances.

How quickly do B12 injections work?

2

This varies depending on your individual circumstances and whether you have a B12 deficiency. If treatment is correcting a deficiency, symptoms may improve as your B12 levels are restored, but the timing varies between individuals. Your response may be monitored according to your circumstances.

Can I have a Biotin injection for hair, skin and nails?

3

Biotin contributes to normal metabolism and is often associated with hair, skin and nail health, but biotin deficiency is uncommon and there is limited evidence that additional biotin provides a cosmetic benefit in people who already have sufficient levels. Your suitability will be assessed before treatment rather than assuming that more biotin will produce a visible benefit.

How often can I have B12 and Biotin injections?

4

There is no single schedule that applies to everyone. Frequency depends on the vitamin, the dose, your individual circumstances and the reason for treatment. Where B12 is being used to treat a confirmed deficiency, the treatment schedule can vary considerably depending on the underlying cause and may require ongoing medical monitoring.
